Social media posts helped Nash County Sheriff’s Office detectives identify and apprehend father and son suspects in several felony breaking and entering cases.
Melvin Ray Edmondson, 47, and Thomas Ray Edmondson, 24, face five counts each of felony breaking and entering and felony larceny and three counts of misdemeanor larceny and felony attempted breaking and entering.
The elder Edmondson is also charged with failure to change address as sex offender. He was convicted in 2007 of taking indecent liberties with a 16-year-old child when he was 33, according to the N.C. Department of Public Safety.
Melvin Edmondson’s bond is set at $130,000. Thomas Edmondson’s bond is set at $102,000.
On March 15 and 16, the sheriff’s office responded to eight calls for service ranging from breaking into storage buildings to houses to vehicles. Several larcenies had been committed at these locations. The thefts targeted lawn equipment, appliances and tools.
Detectives obtained still images from a security camera and shared the images on the Nash County Sheriff’s Office social media pages, Chief Deputy Brandon Media said in a news release last week.
“Nash County citizens stepped up and were able to identify the suspect within 15 minutes,” Medina said. “Further follow-up investigation determined the two suspects were actually a father and son duo resulting in them being located, arrested and charged accordingly.”
The Edmondsons have a court date set for May 14.
“We would like to sincerely thank the citizens of Nash County for assisting in the identification of these two suspects,” Medina said.
