SALISBURY — A Mooresville man was charged this weekend with breaking into a Salisbury home and beating up the occupants.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Jaleel Marquise Phifer, 23, of JC Circle, with misdemeanor assault on a female, two counts breaking and entering terrorizing and injuring, misdemeanor injury to personal property and misdemeanor interfering with emergency communications.

A woman was dragged across the floor, kicked and stomped on, according to an arrest warrant. Another woman was struck in the head and shoved. The home, which was located in 400 block of Moon Circle, was broken into, the warrant said.

A 60-inch television, dry wall, as well as the interior and exterior door frame were damaged. When one woman tried to call 911, Phifer allegedly took the phone out of the woman’s hand and threw it.

In other arrest warrants

• Tanner Anthony Morton, 19, of Corriher Springs Road, Mooresville, was charged by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office with felony larceny of a motor vehicle and felony breaking and entering.

According to the warrant, Morton was accused of breaking into a building in the 800 block of Lonbriar Drive, Kannapolis. The incident occurred in March 19. Morton was accused of taking a 1997 Honda Civic. He was issued a $2,000 secured bond.

• Darnell King, was charged with misdemeanor sexual battery, felony malicious conduct by a prisoner, misdemeanor assault and battery.

King, 42, is a prisoner at Piedmont Correctional Institute and showed his private area to a female prison employee and then slapped her on the buttocks. The incident occurred in July 2019, but the arrest warrant was served on Saturday.
