Breaking: Perth Coronavirus Update – 120 Total Cases In WA Now Confirmed, WA Borders To Be Shut


WA continues to see significant increases in coronavirus cases.

WA Premier Mark McGown has confirmed 30 new cases have been confirmed overnight – taking WArottnest’s total to 120 and WA’s borders are to be shut on Tuesday.

Western Australia is now in a war, the type of war we have never seen before.

The new cases include 11 men and 19 women aged between 21 and 79, with 4 cases reported in regional WA.

From these 30 at least 17 of the newly confirmed cases are overseas travellers or close contacts of travellers. Again leaving another 13 unidentified origins of infection.

WA Borders will be shut

WA Government has announced it will close its borders from 1:30pm (AWST) on Tuesday.

Roads, rail, air, and sea will all be monitored and protected as WA places a strict border shutdown.

Unless previous permission has been granted or a part of the essential services and workers ie trucks and mining you will not be allowed free passage once the borders are shut.

It is urged that if you are a WA resident and want to come home to enter the state before the borders are shut.

It is yet to be decided whether non-WA residents travellers will be housed in quarantine or turned around.

Rottnest Island for quarantine?

In what could be a radical move – holiday destination Rottnest Island is currently being investigated as a quarantine zone.

“It is to make sure that people who cannot or will not quarantine, we can put them somewhere where they can get proper attention and support in which they are properly isolated,” WA Premier Mark McGowan.

WA schools to close?

While schools will be closing in Victoria, Mr. McGowan will be holding discussion’s today about the future of WA schools.

“I want to say is whatever happens with schools, we have to make sure that essential services workers can continue to work and we have to protect grandparents and the elderly.” Mr. McGowan.

In previous appearances Mr. McGowan has stayed firm on his stance that all schools will remain open, however today he seems more acknowledging to the idea that schools may have to close in WA.
