Suspect in Jurupa Valley home break-in and assault dies in custody – Press Enterprise

A man suspected of breaking into a Jurupa Valley home and assaulting a resident died Saturday morning while in Sheriff’s Department custody, authorities said.

Deputies had responded to a home in the 6000 Block of Charles Avenue about 8 a.m. Saturday after receiving a call that a man had broken into the home and began to strangle a resident, said the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in a statement. Once there, deputies found family members restraining the suspect.

Deputies took the man into custody with no incident, but shortly after, authorities said the man stopped breathing. After deputies tried to revive the man, paramedics took the man to Corona Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Coroner officials didn’t immediately publicly identify the man. The cause of death was under investigation.
