Hughes to launch multi-transport technologies at satellite show

The new suite is designed to provide enterprises with solutions to ensure high-speed connectivity for business applications anywhere and at anytime.

Hughes Network Systems, LLC has announced a new suite of technologies that advance connectivity beyond single-transport services, yielding smart solutions for small business, enterprise, aeronautical, and military applications. New Hughes technologies include multi-transport terminals, satellite roaming capabilities and patented Hughes ActivePath technology that dynamically senses and selects the best available transport technology.

“Everyone wants to be connected, everywhere, all the time, and we are innovating the technologies and services that make constant connectivity possible for people, enterprises and things,” commented Pradman Kaul, president of Hughes. “We are making the connected future possible with innovations that leverage the value of geostationary High-Throughput Satellites (HTS), Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) satellites and terrestrial services, because we need every type of transport to meet the unabating demand for bandwidth.”

The Hughes HT2000L multi-transport terminal provides connectivity for both satellite and cellular/LTE services, each operating either as the primary network path or as back-up, with automatic failover switching between the two. Designed to enable an integrated and compact Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) solution for high availability across LTE and satellite connectivity, the HT2000L serves network needs for quick-service restaurants, retail petroleum and convenience stores, government offices and the energy sector.

In another first, the Jupiter System, the Hughes VSAT platform for broadband satellite implementations on land, at sea and in the air, now supports roaming capabilities for aeronautical and maritime mobility applications. Any Jupiter-equipped vessel or aircraft can roam into any other authorised Jupiter -powered system around the world. Moreover, when integrated with antenna control, Jupiter terminals can roam seamlessly between GEO and NGSO satellites, as demonstrated during a recent test flight which also achieved 265 Mbps of throughput to the aircraft.

Powering multi-transport services requires multi-transport technologies. A proprietary, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven technology, Hughes ActivePath automatically classifies customer traffic flows and selects the best mode of transport – such as HTS or LTE – to optimise the transmission. Already in use at nearly 3,000 sites, Hughes ActivePath is blazing a new trail of hybrid solutions that intelligently utilise multiple transports with varying throughputs, latency, data costs and coverage area to improve performance and reliability.
