ROMULUS, N.Y. — An inmate choked an officer who tried to break up a fight inside a Seneca County jail, deputies said.

Victor V. Gregory, 48, was arrested late Wednesday morning by investigators with the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office. He has been charged with attacking a corrections officer inside the Seneca County Correctional Facility in Romulus, deputies said in a news release.

Gregory got into a fight with another inmate inside the jail, deputies said. When a corrections officer stepped in to stop the fight, Gregory choked the officer, deputies said.

The officer suffered minor injuries, deputies said.

Gregory has been charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and second-degree obstruction governmental administration, both misdemeanors. The inmate is due to be arraigned Wednesday evening.

Gregory was arrested in July after he threatened deputies with a loaded, cocked crossbow in Varick, reported the Finger Lakes Times.
