PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – City leaders are working to make sure our area’s facilities are state-of-the-art.
Panama City officials say exciting upgrades are coming to the St. Andrews Wastewater treatment plant.
Now, new technology will be used to help clean the water.
City leaders say using UV light is the method for the future.
This calls for no harsh chemicals like chlorine and bleach.
We’re told it should be complete in about a year and cost more than $2.5 million.
“The city has been moving forward on trying to upgrade the St. Andrews Waste Water Treatment Plant, there’s been over $36 million worth of upgrades that have taken place over the last four years with that project. This is the next step in that vision for how to make that a state of the art facility,” said Panama City City Manager Mark McQueen.
City leaders tell us they’re also working on extending the sewer pipelines into northern parts of the city as it’s rebuilding from Hurricane Michael.
