Record-breaking heat hits Anaheim – Orange County Register

Some cities in northern Orange County broke or tied high temperature records for Feb. 28 on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Anaheim hit a high of 91 degrees on Friday, the NWS said. That temperature broke the previous high by five degrees. The NWS recorded a high of 86 degrees on Feb. 28, 2009.

Casey Oswant, a meteorologist for the NWS in San Diego, said the service has been recording data in Anaheim since 1989.

Santa Ana climbed to a record-tying high of 89 degrees, which was also hit on Feb. 28, 2009.

Temperatures are expected to see a significant drop in north Orange County over the weekend. The NWS forecasted that Santa Ana, Anaheim, Garden Grove, Irvine, Orange, Fullerton and Mission Viejo will see high temperatures between 69 and 74 degrees on Saturday.

Those temperatures are predicted to drop even further on Sunday, with temperatures in the range of 60 to 65 degrees.
