BREAKING NEWS: Duo guilty of first degree murder

Martin Forget and Brian Quesnel have been found guilty of first-degree murder.

The stunning verdict was delivered in a Barrie courtroom this afternoon.

Forget, 43, and Quesnel, 30, were charged with killing Orillia’s Joseph Simonds, 34.

Simonds was shot and killed in the early morning hours of June 4, 2017, by a shotgun wound to the chest. The shooting happened at his residence, a basement apartment at 282 Franklin St., in the south end of Orillia.

Sonny Brokenshire was also originally charged with first-degree murder, but he accepted a plea deal and became a key witness in the trial. His testimony spanned two days and outlined the evolution and escalation of events that led to the death of Simonds.

We will have more on this verdict later today.
