Booneville, Prentiss County (WTVA) – The construction engineering technology program at Northeast Mississippi Community College is getting students ready to hit the workforce.
This program teaches the fundamentals of construction, and how to become successful in mid-level management positions within firms.
Desmion Foote says he saw enrolling in this program as an opportunity to set himself up for a long-lasting career.
“I sat down and looked at my life over a 20-30-year span, and I saw this as something I could do every day for the rest of my life”, Foote said.
Joseph Borden was one of the first students in this program at NEMCC, and now he passes along his knowledge as the instructor of the course.
During the two-year program, students go through OSHA 30 safety training. This is a training teaches healthy and safety awareness.
“I think that it’s [OSHA 30 training] vital part of this program”, Borden said.
Upon graduation, students can head into the workforce acting as project managers, estimators, layout specialists, and more.
