Police searching for suspects after 25 car break-ins reported overnight in Rocklin

ROCKLIN, Calif. — Rocklin Police are searching for the suspects who are responsible for breaking into 25 cars off Sunset Boulevard late Friday night.

“There were several up in the area of Blue Oaks and Taff along Sunset and Fair Way,” Corporal Darrell Jantz of the Rocklin Police Department said.

The break ins happened late in the evening, so victims woke up to their car windows shattered. Jantz said that cars that were targeted were either parked on the side of the street or in the driveway.

“We do have a vehicle that was seen on surveillance video,” Jantz said. “It was a dark colored early 2000’s Ford Explorer and several subjects were seen smashing windows and then driving away.”

Neighbor Herb Nieberberger has lived in the area for 30 years and said it’s relatively safe, and that criminals have taken advantage of residents’ trusting attitudes.

“We have had neighbors who are trusting like me and leave their doors unlocked and somebody comes in and takes things that don’t belong to them,” Nieberberger said.

He said he’s had items stolen from his own car twice after leaving his doors unlocked mistakenly.

“It’s violating, one instance I had a video camera in my car, took a picture of the guy and gave it to the police,” Nieberberger said.

Rocklin Police say the 25 cars that were broken into were locked and that they are still working on finding the suspects who got away.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Rocklin Police Department at 916-625-5400.
