Monument Health experts talk technology at the Black Hills Stock Show

RAPID CITY, S.D. — At the Black Hills Stock Show, representatives from Monument Health’s Orthopedic and Specialty Hospital discussed Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and new technology in the medical field.

Carpal tunnel occurs when the median nerve, a major nerve in the hand, is squeezed or compressed as it travels through the wrist.

It’s a very common ailment, and there are alternatives to surgery if caught early enough.

General Surgeon Jacob Weasel from Monumental Health also spoke about technological improvements with robotic surgery.

He addressed some of the myths surrounding robotics, such as it being in the experimental phase — in fact, its widely used throughout the world and has been adopted by almost every major university in the country.

And while a robotic system may be used in the operating room, the surgeon is still in control.
