Of the eight area divisions WJCC compares itself to — Gloucester, Hampton, New Kent, Newport News, Surry, Virginia Beach, West Point and York — WJCC ranks sixth for what it pays teachers with bachelor’s degrees, according to a presentation the division’s human resources director Tim Baker gave to the school board on Nov. 12. Among those divisions, WJCC pays the lowest salaries to teachers with a master’s degree who are in the first 10 years of teaching.
