Students from Franklin D. Roosevelt Middle School in Bristol Township received a visit from Arizona State University (ASU) representatives last week as part of a program that supports educators using technology.
ASU representatives Kimberly Reynolds and Nicholas Matula visited Franklin D. Roosevelt Middle School in Bristol Township last Thursday and Friday to show teachers and Tiger Techs, which is made up of students who are part of a peer mentoring technology program, how to use 3D printers, virtual reality, and augmented reality. The middle school also received a drone recently, which Reynolds offered flying instruction with students.
“Drone flying prepares students for many possible career pathways,” said Bernadette Barone, instructional coach and STEM integration at Roosevelt. “Students will continue to practice flying the drone while BTSD teachers become certified drone pilots.”
The school’s digital inclusion and technology-infused curriculum is supported by ASU and Verizon Innovative Learning. Roosevelt and Neil A. Armstrong Middle Schools were awarded $15,000 grants for both schools. Courses supported by the group are being rolled out at both schools.
