Sipsey man arrested for breaking into school

A Sipsey man was arrested Wednesday night for taking items from the former Sipsey school.

Keith Edward Jay, 60, was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary.

Deputy Steve Legg, who was assigned to the area by Walker County Sheriff’s Office, responded after Sipsey Town Councilman James Donald called to report a burglary in progress at the school at approximately 7:15 p.m.

Legg found Jay and his vehicle at the school. The vehicle held fluorescent lights and lighting equipment from inside the school, which is owned by the town of Sipsey.

Legg confirmed that Jay did not have permission to take the items, and Jay was  transported by jail staff from the Sipsey substation.

Bond was set at $7,500.
