One in five don't know their phone number as technology makes us forgetful

NEW research suggests the South East is at risk of widespread “digital amnesia” as it revealed 21 per cent of people do not know their own mobile phone number.

The research by technology specialists Capsule found more than two thirds of respondents in the region don’t know their partner’s number, 63 per cent don’t know their best friend’s birthday and 73 per cent don’t know when they have booked holidays without using technology to check.

More than two thirds rely on technology for directions, 46 per cent for shopping, 43 per cent for times and dates of events and 38 per cent to access transport.

Capsule chief executive Duncan Stockdill said: “As technology has become more connected, accessible and easy to use, we have become progressively more reliant on it to help organise our lives and remember for us.”
