Man in serious condition after officer-involved shooting in Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – A man is in serious condition after an officer-involved shooting Thursday night on East 34th Street and Atlantic Avenue.

According to the Savannah Police Department (SPD), officers were called the 700 block of E. 34th St. around 9:20 p.m. for a report of a person with a gun.

Shots were fired when police arrived, but the department could not say who fired first.

SPD could confirm that the officer involved was not hurt. A man, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Witnesses told News 3 police were focusing their investigation on the front yard of a residence. Photos shared with News 3 show gunshot holes in windows in the area.

Neighbors said this is the second shooting in five days.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to lead the investigation.
