Hanold Associates Strengthens Search Team with an Eye on Technology, Healthcare & Private Equity

January 21, 2020 – Chicago-based Hanold Associates has expanded with the addition of Joe Costello as a partner. He specializes in recruiting executive level HR leaders across industries. His core focus is on technology, private equity and medical devices with a broader focus in the healthcare industry.

“While we specialize in HR across industries, we are looking to continue adding depth to each sector, and Joe brings a significant depth of expertise to the technology, medical devices and private equity industries,” said Jason Hanold, managing partner. “He has been around executive search his entire life, a second generation search consultant, and adds another unique perspective to our firm family. We are thrilled to have him on board.”

Mr. Costello will focus on recruiting leaders within the HR sub-functions, including talent acquisition, learning, leadership & organizational development, talent management, diversity, operations and total rewards.

Prior to joining Hanold Associates, Mr. Costello was a principal with one80, an executive search firm specializing in the medical device and technology industries with a focus on board and executive level recruiting. At one80, he helped develop pioneering teams tailored to a company’s fast-growing leadership, culture and business needs in the medical technology and health informatic sectors.

Before that, Mr. Costello was with Align Technology, Covidien (Medtronic), Coloplast and ADC Telecommunications in progressive marketing and operations leadership roles. Prior to entering the private sector, he had an internship with U.S. Congressman Jim Ramstad. Mr. Costello earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. He also served as the head coach of Mahtomedi’s high school varsity lacrosse team.

Hanold Associates Fills Key Post for the NFL

With the National Football League kicking off its 100th season, Hanold Associates recently placed Corey Harrison as the new senior vice president of executive operations for the office of the commissioner, Roger Goodell. Mr. Harrison will report to the league’s chief operating officer, Maryann Turcke. Jason Hanold, CEO and co-managing partner of the search firm, led the assignment.

“We were looking for talented leaders who were agile, adaptive, with high IQ and EQ who could help drive critical initiatives and key priorities for the commissioner and the league office,” said Mr. Hanold. “In partnering with Maryann Turcke, you learn that she is more about identifying great talent, and then leveraging those talents where needed most in the organization, rather than building a position description, and then finding the talent to fit within that box or framed confine. She has an incredible eye for the potential and capacity of talent.”

“Lisa Butkus is an outstanding addition to our firm,” said Mr. Hanold. “With her experience with Luxury Brands and retail as a merchant, buyer and multiple-year participant in Fashion Week, she brings a wealth of expertise to the broader consumer sector, both within the HR function and beyond.”

Hanold started the New Year by being selected by Major League Baseball to assist in recruiting a chief human resources and diversity officer. “The MLB has had a significant focus on diversity, most recently with Renee Tirado (recruited to Gucci) leading the effort, and Wendy Lewis before that (now at McDonald’s), but their HR efforts have had a strong labor relations focus,” said Mr. Hanold. “They are continuing to elevate the importance in the connectivity and interplay between diversity & inclusion efforts and HR evolving into a more holistic talent strategy and perspective.” MLB, he added, continues to make greater investments in its people, talent and diversity capabilities.
