South Boston duo nabbed during alleged break into downtown ATM: Police – Boston Herald

Two South Boston men are in custody after Boston police say they caught them breaking into a ATM early Saturday morning in the Financial District.

Gerald Perkins, 46, and Mark Mullaney, 53, will face a judge Tuesday on charges of breaking and entering, possession of burglarious tools and destruction of property after officers caught them at the ATM near 57 Broad Street at approximately 2:20 a.m. Saturday.

Officers responded to an alarm call for the ATM, and while inspecting the machine, heard a noise from the rear of the ATM, BPD said in a statement. As police shined flashlights toward the back of the ATM in a hallway, they allegedly saw Perkins and Mullaney using crowbars to break into the rear of the machine.

Police withdrew their firearms, arrested the men and inspected the ATM, where they saw extensive damage to the rear of the ATM, police said.

Mullaney and Perkins are scheduled to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court Tuesday.
