Fire has destroyed a mobile home and injured one person in southwest Emporia.

The fire developed at 303 Melody Lane, inside the West Hills Manufactured Homes Community, shortly before 5 pm. Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says the blaze was well underway when crews arrived.

Conley says one resident was taken by private vehicle to Newman Regional Health with minor unspecified injuries. That person’s name has not been released.

The cause is accidental and appears to be unsafe use of a candle. Conley encouraged people to be cautious using any smoking materials.
