BREAKING: Colorado Springs Police officer shot and injured

A Colorado Springs Police officer is in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being shot last night during a traffic stop.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the officer involved shooting. It all happened on Saturday night just before midnight.

An officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department initiated the traffic stop near the intersection of Galley Road and Arrawanna Street.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, one officer requested backup from a second officer. The male driver shot at the officers, who then returned fire. During the incident, at least one round was fired at the suspect by the officer.

The man then drove away from the scene and later was involved in a traffic accident at the intersection of Pikes Peak Avenue and Dunsmere Street. The man then fled the scene on foot, and is still at large.
