Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl praised VAR and Brendan Rodgers had no complaints with Leicester’s disallowed goal after an incident-packed afternoon.

Foxes defender Jonny Evans thought he had headed a 90th-minute leveller only for VAR to chalk off the goal for offside as the teams returned to the halfway line.

And Rodgers said: ‘When you watch it, Jonny Evans makes the header and you think we have the point. But it was correct on both incidents. Jonny was offside, we can’t complain.’

The other incident Rodgers referred to was the reversal of a penalty to Southampton early in the second half.

Shane Long was bundled over by Caglar Soyuncu only for VAR to bring back play and rule that the Saints striker was offside by the tightest of margins.

But Hasenhuttl said: ‘VAR was an important tool today and it worked fantastic. The most important thing is that it was fair.

‘This makes it so much better because we are using that high line to defend set-pieces, we know VAR is there and it’s fantastic.’
