MANILA, Philippines — Police arrested Monday one of the accused in the Maguindanao massacre case, as at least 80 other perpetrators remain at-large.

Brig. Gen. Marni Marcos, director of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), said Faisal Dimaukom alias Kagi Faizal was collared at 5:05 a.m. following a decisive intelligence gathering and operation of the police.

He was arrested at Barangay Kabengi in Datu Saudi Ampatuan town by personnel of the Regional Intelligence Division, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 14, and the municipal police.

A fragmentation hand grenade was confiscated from him when he was arrested, according to Marcos.

Dimaukom will be turned over to the Parang Municipal Police Station.

Marcos said the regional police will intensify its intelligence gathering and operations to arrest other convicts still at large and suspects in the infamous massacre that killed 58 people, including 32 members of the media, on November 29, 2009. The Maguindanao massacre case has been tagged as the worst-election related violence in Philippine history and the world’s single deadliest attack on journalists.
