Mississippi Prisons on Lockdown After Violence Leaves Five Dead

Eruptions of violence in Mississippi prisons this week left five inmates dead and prompted a statewide lockdown of facilities that continued into the weekend, as officials seek to reassert control in the correctional system.

Investigators are trying to determine the causes of the violence, some of which was gang-related, said Pelicia Hall, the corrections commissioner.
