Emergency services were called to a severe car crash involving a Skoda Octavia and a Mercedes in Fallowfield at approximately 3.35am this morning (December 31).

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police has now confirmed that a man died following the incident on Yew Tree Road, stating that five men had also been taken to hospital with “serious” injuries and that one remains in a critical condition.

Responding to the fatal incident, Inspector Danny Byrne, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“This is a tragic incident in which one man died and five others were injured on what should have been a night of celebration – our thoughts are with them and their loved ones as our investigation continues.

“I would like to use this opportunity to ask anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact us as soon as possible.

“We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who saw the black Mercedes in the area prior to this collision.”
