FORT MYERS, Fla. – A burglar broke into several garages in the Watermark Community and tried breaking into a woman’s home while she was in the shower.
The burglaries were reported Wednesday night around 10 p.m. off Winkler Avenue. There were three burglaries in the community in the past week, according to the Fort Myers Police Department.
William Hooth said he was sitting in his living room with his wife watching television when they saw a light in their backyard.
“There was a guy standing at the door trying to open it, he couldn’t open it so I went outside and yelled ‘What’re you doing? Who are you?'” Hooth said.
He believes the suspect was scared away from the lanai, but made his way to the garage, where he stole several items from Hooth’s car.
“He was in our glove box, threw everything all over the place. Then he got in our trunk and tried to take the battery out,” Hooth said.
Fort Myers police started patrolling the area after a neighbor called investigators. The neighbor said she got out of the shower and saw a man on her lanai trying to break into her sliding doors. The crook also ransacked the garage of her home.
Fort Myers police are still investigating the burglaries. If you have any information, contact the police department.
