Louisiana Supreme Court Justice Marcus Clark is retiring in the middle of his 10-year term.

An election to fill his unexpired term will be held November 3. Clark, R, West Monroe first won election to the Supreme Court in 2009 to fill the unexpired term of former Judge Chet Traylor and was later elected to a full 10-year term.

Clark of West Monroe is a University of Louisiana Monroe graduate who represents the 4th District, of which Monroe and Alexandria are the population centers.  Fourth District Judge Wendell Manning, R, Calhoun and 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Jay McCallum, R – Farmerville, have already said they are considering running for the seat.

Among other potential candidates are Second Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Jimbo Stephens, I – Baskin, and Fourth District Judge Danny Ellender, R-Monroe.

“I’m thankful to Justice Clark for his service to the Court,” Manning said. “It would be a great honor to serve the citizens of Louisiana on the Supreme Court, as it is an honor to serve on the Fourth Judicial Court.”

“I have been very encouraged by the outpouring of support from people who want me to run because of my experience as an Assistant District Attorney, my conservative voting record in the House of Representatives, 15 years on the trial bench, and

my service on the Second Circuit Court of appeal,”  McCallum said. “My service as a State Representative has broadened my contacts throughout the 20 parish district.”
