BREAKING: Explosion At Bronx Amtrak Facility Leaves One Dead And Two Injured

An explosion at an Amtrak facility in the Bronx has left one person dead and two people with minor injuries, according to the FDNY.

An FDNY spokesperson said the incident occurred at 11:06 a.m. inside 1620 Unionport Road in the Van Nest section of the Bronx. The cause of the explosion is yet unknown.

NBC New York has reported that the FDNY “received numerous calls with multiple reports, including that of a transformer explosion, manhole explosion and fire.”

A spokesperson for Amtrak issued the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened to report the death of an Amtrak employee. The incident happened at approximately 11:05 a.m. at a substation just outside of New York City. There are reports of two additional nonlife-threatening employee injuries. Trains are being delayed through the area as local authorities respond. A full investigation is underway.”

An aerial video shared by Citizen App NYC showed smoke coming from the facility.
