Dayton police officer hit, dragged by vehicle

UPDATE @ 6:10 p.m.: A Dayton police officer suffered a head injury when the officer was dragged by a reported stolen vehicle. 

The officer has been taken to Miami Valley Hospital. The officer’s condition is not known, but the injury is believed to be non-life threatening. 

Police are looking for the vehicle. 

South Gettysburg Avenue is closed between West Third and McCall streets until further notice. 

The accident was reported at 5:30 p.m. at Maywood Avenue and South Hatfield Street, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch. 

News Center 7 is hearing the vehicle could be a 2007 dark blue Honda Odyssey minivan and the driver is wanted on a charge of felonious assault on a police officer, according to scanner traffic.

INITIAL REPORT

A medic unit and police have been dispatched to a reported crash involving a Dayton police officer and a stolen vehicle on Maywood Avenue.

The accident was reported about 5:30 p.m. The officer has been taken to Miami Valley Hospital. 

The officer’s condition is not known.
