Neil Warnock leaves Cardiff City: Live breaking news

Cardiff City have parted ways with manager Neil Warnock after three years in charge of the club.

The Bluebirds boss oversaw 144 matches during his tenure in the Welsh capital, including earning a promotion to the Premier League.

He took the club from the brink of crisis in 2016, when they were wallowing in the depths of the Championship, right up to the to the heights of the Premier League.

He and the board, however, have decided that now is the right time to step aside.

Warnock said: “Today I am leaving my beloved Bluebirds after over three years of which have been some of the best days in my long football career.”

Cardiff City chairman, Mehmet Dalman added: “On behalf of Cardiff City Football Club, I thank Neil for his invaluable contribution to the future of this great Club.

“He not only gained promotion in his first season but played a pivotal role in uniting the fans and the club. I am personally upset by his departure and wish him the very best for the future.”

The club will begin their search for a new manager immediately.
