Casper saw record breaking cold for the month of October

CASPER, Wyo. — Casper saw the coldest average monthly temperatures in October in the last 80 years, with records dating back to 1939.

“October started out pretty quiet, but ended with a big bang…of record breaking cold temperatures,” the National Weather Service in Riverton says. “The average monthly temperature was colder than normal at all of our climate sites, with most of them setting new monthly records for October.”

The average temperature in Casper was 36.8 degrees in October, which is 8.4 degrees colder than average.

The Casper area also saw more precipitation than average, with the 18th wettest October since 1939. The Oil City saw 1.3 inches of total precipitation.
