China calls for high-level cooperation in science and technology – Xinhua

BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) — China has vowed to develop science and technology and enhance global governance, an official said at a forum Saturday.

Technological and economic globalization has accelerated the optimization of resource allocation, said Wan Gang, chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, at the Forum on Global S&T Development and Governance.

Scientific and technological innovation should take the lead in advancing high-level opening-up and facilitating global cooperation to eliminate risks of deglobalization, Wan said.

He also stressed that China would further enhance cooperation and governance in science and technology, strengthen innovation capability and promote the popularization of scientific knowledge.

With the promotion of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the income gap may widen as some repetitive and simple jobs are likely to be replaced by robots, especially the integration of AI, automation technology and information and communication technology, Zhou Xiaochuan, former governor of the Chinese central bank warned.

In this regard, Zhou urged more efforts in reducing the impacts of new technologies on employment.
