EASTON, Pa. – The Easton Suburban Water Authority is responding to a water main break and a sinkhole in Easton’s South Side Wednesday night.

An Easton fire captain at the scene told 69 News there was a water main break and a sinkhole. Residents of two houses have been evacuated for precautionary reasons, the fire captain said.

The main break is on Davis Street, between Berwick Street and Lincoln Street. Field crews have located and isolated the main break, the authority said on its website.

Customers in the direct area will have no water until repairs are made. Customers in surrounding areas will have low water pressure and possible discolored water.

The water authority said customers should avoid using water, if possible, until morning, or when water pressure has returned to normal. Field crews will be be on the site throughout the night making the needed repairs. The water authority said it hopes to have water restored to normal by Thursday morning.

69 News’ Josh Rultenberg saw what appeared to be the ground caving in at the corner of Davis and Wirebach Streets.

A water authority worker at the scene said crews will dig up Davis Street.
