A team from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) participated in the Third Regional Competition for chemical cars, held in Bahrain in October 2019, and secured the 1st position in the Middle East region.
The team is made up of Mohammed Al Omari, Osama Abu Al Hija, Majd Matalqa, Farah Al Bayari and Tasneem Bani Melhem supervised by Prof. Munther Kandah and Dr. Muhannad Al-Jarrah.
This Competition challenges undergraduate students to develop and construct a car powered by a chemical or biochemical energy source, which will safely transport a specified weight over a given distance and then stop. Contestants attempted to stop the car at certain marked point using chemical reactions.
As a result of this victory, the JUST team has become qualified to participate in the international competition in the United States of America during November.
This is the first time a Jordanian team has participated in this competition, and achieved the first place regionally.
