Woman slashed trying to break up fight in Costa Mesa – Orange County Register

A woman tried to break up a fight between two men Tuesday, Oct. 22, and was slashed in the arm with a knife by a suspect sought by police.

The altercation took place near the parking area of an apartment on the 2300 block of Newport Boulevard at about 5:15 p.m., Costa Mesa Police Lt. Victor Bakkila said. A female passenger and male driver of a Chevy Malibu had just arrived home, when they were confronted by two people in a Silver Ford Fusion that had parked nearby.

The man behind the wheel of the Ford and the driver of the Chevy exited their vehicles and got into a physical altercation with each other, Bakkila said. At some point, the driver of the Ford produced a knife and the Chevy’s passenger attempted to stop the fight. She suffered a laceration to her arm, and was taken to a nearby hospital for sutures. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The person suspected of cutting her got back into the Fusion, which was last seen traveling south on Newport Boulevard, Bakkila said.

What sparked the fight remained unclear Tuesday evening, Bakkila said. The woman who was cut denied having any prior relationship with the man who wounded her.  The incident was under investigation.

Officials asked anyone with information that might help authorities identify or locate the suspect to contact Costa Mesa Police detectives by dialing 714-754-5637.
