Elite WR Deion Colzie commits to Notre Dame

Deion Colzie is one of the top overall players in the class of 2021 and he just announced his commitment to Notre Dame.

The 6-4, 195-pounder from Athens (Ga.) Athens Academy chose the Fighting Irish over a loaded offer list including the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Duke, Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi State, Virginia, West Virginia and many others.

Despite a strong push from the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs, there was something that always seemed to intrigue Colzie about Notre Dame, so his decision to end up with the Fighting Irish doesn’t really come as a major shock. Colzie wanted that Notre Dame offer and put in the work to achieve it. He camped over the summer, put on a show, and was named the Alpha Dog of Notre Dame’s summer camp according to 247Sports.

“The Athens (Ga.) Academy four-star wide receiver showed up and more than lived up to expectations. Colzie used his speed, size and overall talent to dominate just about every opponent he went up against. The only defensive back to give him any problems was arguably the top player on the other side of the ball, Bobby Taylor. All in all, Colzie put on a show throughout the entire camp and showed why 247Sports has the class of 2021 recruit listed as a Top100 talent.”

Colzie also attended The Opening regional in Nashville, Tenn., and yet again, 247Sports named him the Alpha Dog of that workout as well. It just shows exactly how talented Colzie truly is and how big of a win this is for Notre Dame.

“The event boasted one of the deeper groups of top performer contenders nominees we’ve seen this spring with several prospects making a case for Alpha Dog honors. In the end, we felt that it was wide receiver Deion Colzie who had the most complete day. The 2021 prospect out of Athens (Ga.) Athens Academy was scintillating in 1-on-1’s, winning nearly every rep we saw, with the majority going for deep touchdowns. Even when the pass wasn’t on target, Colzie was typically wide open. Checking in at 6-foot-4, 193 pounds, the rising junior was able to separate off the line with quickness and use long speed to pull away on vertical routes. He also showed strong hands and downfield tracking ability, finishing more consistently at the catch point than any receiver in attendance. Colzie backed up that strong on-field performance during the camp’s testing portion, posting a 4.56 40-yard dash, 4.25 second shuttle and 36.3 inch vertical–all outstanding marks. He currently ranks as the no. 186 overall prospect in the 2021 Top247 and holds offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech and Tennessee.”
