WV MetroNews Technology company looking into possible Morgantown office

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — One Monongalia County official is hoping a California-based technology company chooses to establish a district office in Morgantown.

OpenGov is a service allowing government bodies to report information through cloud-based methods. The company has worked with 2,000 government bodies since 2012.

According to Monongalia County Commission President Tom Bloom, OpenGox is considering expanding its New York City operation and establishing an office in the eastern United States.

“We got in there to suggest the amount of cost for expanding New York City, they could build a first-class facility,” he said.

Company officials recently toured the Leidos office in Morgantown and learned about the talent pool from West Virginia University.

“They were very impressed,” Bloom noted.

Bloom said OpenGov officials went from interested in Morgantown to open to discussions. A timetable on OpenGov’s next steps is not publicly known.
