‘Breaking Bad’ Pop-Up Installation To Hit L.A. For ‘El Camino’ Release

Because the rich and famous live and work among us, residents of Los Angeles County hardly flinch when an entertainer appears in our midst. But increasingly in recent years, their worlds of make-believe have been rising from our street corners via the series-based pop-up installation.

Add the smash AMC series Breaking Bad to the swelling rolodex of shows getting in on the action. Like Twin Peaks, Saved by the Bell and Beverly Hills 90210 before them, a limited-time only Breaking Bad immersive experience will unveil itself in West Hollywood on Oct. 16.

Dubbed the “Breaking Bad Experience,” the exhibit will serve as a pop-up bar and restaurant to celebrate the Oct. 11 release of the series’ feature film sequel, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.

Staged by the team who recreated the “Double R Diner,” “The Max” and “The Peach Pit” for the aforementioned tribute installations, the “Breaking Bad Experience” will display as a shrine to the series, with its trademark RV, numerous set replications and a restaurant featuring food and drinks inspired by the show.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring the world of Breaking Bad to life,” said Derek Berry, one of the concept’s partners. “We are always looking to further elevate the nostalgic pop-up experience into something both foodies and show fans will love. So, when the timing aligned for this to become our next concept, we saw an opportunity to cook up our most immersive experience yet.”

Added series creator and El Camino producer, writer and director Vince Gilligan: “It’s exciting to be able to give the folks who supported the show for all these years the chance to experience Walt’s world firsthand.”

Thus far, the publicized menu items are more frivolous and punny–”Heisenburger Sliders…” the “Full Measure Grilled Cheese…” and “Loaded SAULsa Nachos”–than authentically character-based. How about some Los Pollos Hermanos fried chicken? Crack rock lobster? Camomile tea with soy milk and Stevia? Or rooftop pizza?

Hopefully it’s not too late for some menu revisions.

More broadly, pop-up fever has been a recreational godsend to the achingly dull locales of New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco over the last several years. Comedy Central’s Colossal Clusterfest alone has staged series recreations from Seinfeld, South Park, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Office and more since 2017. Meanwhile, an immersive Friends experience was stationed in New York just last month.

Tickets for the “Breaking Bad Experience” are available here. The installation will be located at 7100 Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood.

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Story will be available to stream on Netflix on Oct. 11. It will also screen in theaters in select cities Oct. 11-13.
