MACHESNEY PARK (WREX) — One man is dead and another man is hurt after a shooting early Sunday morning at a bar in Machesney Park.
Shots rang out just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday at Cronies Grill, 9032 N 2nd St, Machesney Park, according to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said a birthday celebration was underway at Cronies when a fight broke out. When deputies arrived, they found a man laying on the dance floor with a gunshot wound, according to Deputy Chief Mike Schultz.
Schultz told 13 WREX the man was taken to the hospital where he died and another man was taken to the hospital for minor injuries from a gunshot wound to the arm.
Winnebago County Coroner Bill Hintz told 13 WREX early Sunday his office was responding to the hospital after a shooting. The coroner’s office won’t release the name of the victim until family is notified.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office says this murder is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information should call the sheriff’s office at (815) 319-6000.
