ATLANTA – Channel 2 Action News has learned that a 13-month-old girl was shot in southwest Atlanta on Sunday evening.
Police said officers responded to a person shot call at Piedmont Avenue and Decatur Street Southeast around 5:30 p.m.
The mother flagged down an officer and said the child had been shot in the hand. Police said the mother had tried to take the child to a hospital herself but her car had broken down.
Officers escorted the mother and the child to Scottish Rite Medical Center. The baby was stable when she arrived at the hospital.

The mother told officers two men were in a fight and started shooting at each other at Ira and Fletcher Streets when the child was shot.
Police said that two people got into an accident, which led to the fight and the exchange of gunfire.
Police say they aren’t sure if the mother and child were in one of the cars, but they were at the scene when the accident happened.
Officers are searching for the suspects, who police believe left the scene after the shooting.
