BREAKING: Surviving Wausau cemetery shooting victims in stable, critical condition

WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — Wausau Police have recommended charges to the suspect of Thursday’s shootings at the Pine Grove Cemetery in a press release Friday. They have also given the conditions of the two surviving victims.

According to the release, officials have recommended one count of first-degree intentional homicide, along with two counts of first-degree attempted intentional homicide against 64-year-old Henry West.

West, who is expected to appear in Marathon County Court at 2 p.m. Friday, was a former employee of Pine Grove Cemetery and left in 2012, per the release. The release adds West did not leave employment on his own terms and was dissatisfied with the cemetery.

According to the release, officials did not disclose the identities of the victims in the shooting by name; however, they did confirm that a 52-year-old Wausau woman was fatally shot, while a 60-year-old man and 70-year-old woman, both from Wausau, are in critical and stable condition, respectively.

“We cannot adequately express the grief we feel over the events of yesterday,” the Wausau Cemetery Association Board of Directors said in a statement. “We grieve for the families involved and hope and pray that those who were wounded have a full recovery. We extend our profound sympathies to all of the families involved.”

“We still have a lot of work ahead of us as we continue to investigate this case,” Wausau Police said in the release. There will be more search warrants executed, witnesses interviewed, and evidence processed.”
