Fire burning 20,000 bales of hay near San Xavier Mission

TUCSON – A fire has ignited near San Xavier Co-Op Farm on the southside Tuesday evening, according to witnesses at the scene.

According to Tohono O’odham Fire Department, the blaze is burning a structure located on the Tohono O’odham Nation. It reportedly was reported to emergency crews at around 5:49 p.m. Tuesday.

Witnesses say the structure in question is located at 8100 Oidak Wog near San Xavier Road, near the Tohono O’odham Mission. At this time, it is unclear if the fire is threatening the church.

Green Valley Fire Department said about 20,000 bales of hay are currently burning in connection to the incident.

Fire crews from Drexel Heights, Pascua Yaqui, Rural Metro and Green Valley are assisting in the incident. There are currently more than 40 firefighters and seven engines at the scene.

Fire officials have not yet released if any injuries were sustained in the crash.
