Rugby World Cup live breaking news as Ireland take the lead against Japan and Wales prepare to face Australia

Ireland have taken an early lead against Rugby World Cup hosts Japan, after Argentina fought out a 28-12 win over Tonga this morning.

Los Pumas dominated in the first half against the Pacific Islanders, before a tighter affair in the second, but fans have been left fuming over an unpunished hit that denied Tonga their second try – which many are labelling a shoulder charge. You can read the full story on that here.

Now, we have Japan v Ireland, which should be a fascinating encounter.

The visitors will be clear favourites but if the last tournament taught us anything, it is that Japan should not be immediately dismissed.

Since beating South Africa in one of the World Cup’s greatest ever moments, Japan’s reputation has enhanced and who knows what they can achieve with the home crowd’s support.

Then at 10.45am South Africa play Namibia in what is expected to be a routine victory for the Springboks against a side coached by Welshman Phil Davies.

We’ve also had Wales’ open training session in Tokyo this morning ahead of their clash with Australia on Sunday, with Shaun Edwards confirming that Adam Beard has been training alone as he continues his return to match fitness following appendix surgery. You can read the full morning headlines here.
