Man dies, woman raped following home break-in, authorities say

A 38-year-old man is being accused of assaulting a man and raping a woman after breaking into a home in Lowell, according to authorities.The man, who officials said was in his 50s, was found dead inside the home.At approximately 3 p.m. Monday, state police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious death on Queen Street from Lowell police.According to the district attorney’s office, a man known to a woman who lives in the Queen Street residence broke into her home and allegedly attacked the man, who was a tenant on the first floor.The woman told investigators that she found the first-floor tenant dead when she arrived home. She said she was then held against her will and assaulted by 38-year-old Hoeup Honn.Officials said the woman fled the home when Honn fell asleep and she eventually used a neighbor’s phone to contact authorities.Honn was subsequently taken into custody without incident, according to authorities. He has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated rape and assault and battery causing serious bodily injury. He will be arraigned Tuesday in Lowell District Court. Authorities said they may press additional charges following further investigation.Police were seen investigating the residence at 27 Queen Street on Monday night.Authorities are not releasing the man’s identify pending notification of next of kin and a ruling by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on the cause and manner of death.The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Lowell police and state police are investigating the incidents.
