You’ve got to be kidding.
No, seriously. Everyone was ready to celebrate Mark Dantonio’s school record-setting win as Michigan State’s head coach.
Totally ready.
But Arizona State led at halftime, 3-0, in a fairly putrid game.
Michigan State’s Matt Coghlin, who had been 7-for-7 on field goals going into the game, missed three Saturday afternoon. Three.
Actually, the more important number is 12. As in, 12 Spartans on the field in that last-gasp 42-yard field goal attempt (which Coghlin made). That pushed it back to a 47-yarder, which went wide.
Arizona State’s coach is Herm Edwards. You know, the former NFL coach who yelled: “You play to win the game!”
And Arizona State did, 10-7. Shelve the confetti for next week.
