The Community Health Clinic’s a bit more financially healthy after A Healthier Heartland fundraiser.
The annual fundraiser, which featured a new name reflecting the clinic’s mission, is very important for the clinic, said Becky Allen, executive director.
“The less we make, the less we can do,” she said. “The more we make, the more we can do for people.”
At least $36,850 was raised Friday at Pritchard Community Center. Allen said it takes about $230,000 a year to run the clinic.
The Community Health Clinic provides basic health care to uninsured and underinsured residents of Hardin, LaRue, Breckinridge, Grayson and Meade counties.
According to data provided at the benefit, 2,972 clinician medical and advocacy visits were provided to nearly 700 individual patients last year. There also were 875 pharmacy prescriptions delivered and 73 dental evaluations and procedures completed.
Throughout the fundraising event, donors could bid on items such as artwork, a winning 1973 Kentucky Derby ticket and a signed Marvel poster by the late Stan Lee, a comic book writer. Numerous treats from several vendors also were available, including national companies and local eateries.
One local business present was Vicky’s Kitchen based in Radcliff.
Vicky Potts, the business owner, said she was happy to help the clinic.
“For them to stay open, I’m in for it,” she said.
The fundraiser also included testimonials from patients of the Community Health Clinic, which relocated in March 2018 to larger quarters at 1113 Woodland Drive in Elizabethtown.
Theresa Ledford of Vine Grove said she is suffering from congestive heart failure. She was told to use a wearable defibrillator and heart monitor, but even with insurance, the device would cost $4,000 a month.
Hardin Memorial Health staff contacted the Community Health Clinic and Ledford was able to get the defibrillator, with both HMH and the clinic helping to cover the cost.
“I’m not sure where my health would be today if it weren’t for the wonderful and tireless efforts of the staff at Hardin Memorial Hospital, its doctors, nurses, technicians, its financial assistance department as well as the Community Health Clinic,” she said.
