Southwestern CT gets new regional health action organization

Regional Youth Adult Social Action Partnership and Southwest Regional Mental Health Board have merged to form a new state-designated regional health action organization to serve southwestern Connecticut.

The Hub — as the merger was identified in an announcement sent out late Saturday night — is intended to support and coordinate mental health, suicide prevention, substance misuse and problem gambling in the 14 communities from Greenwich through the greater Bridgeport area. The organization will serve as a liaison between the region and the state.

The organization will also house the TurningPointCT.org project, aimed at young people in recovery from mental health and substance use disorders. The project provides peer support online through support groups and school and college presentations.

As a program of RYASAP, The Hub will benefit from RYASAP’s AmeriCorps/PreventionCorps program. The PreventionCorps member provides opioid education and Narcan training to the community.
