COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Crews were called to Martin Drake Power Plant Tuesday night for a reported fire.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to the plant at 700 Conejos Street near I-25 and Highway 24 just before 8:30 p.m.
Colorado Springs Utilities confirmed with 11 News all employees were evacuated and were safe. As of 8:50 p.m. there were no reported power outages tied to the fire and the electric grid was considered safe and stable. The source of the fire was still under investigation.
The coal-fired plant is responsible for producing 25 percent of the power in Colorado Springs.
A fire broke out at the power plant on May 5, 2014. The 2014 fire was caused by “human error” according to investigators with the Colorado Springs Fire Department.
