US man accused of stabbing dog and breaking its teeth after it urinated on bed

A man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend’s dog with a knife and used pliers to break the dog’s teeth after it urinated on their bed.

The San Antonio Police Department arrested Vernon Ortiz on animal cruelty charges following the incident.

Police were called to a home on August 2 where they found a dachshund, which belonged to Ortiz’s girlfriend, with facial wounds and problems with its teeth.

Authorities say the 41-year-old allegedly used a 15cm hunting knife to stab the dog in the face after it had urinated on the bed.

Ortiz also allegedly used pliers to break the dog’s teeth.

After an investigation, Ortiz confessed to stabbing the dog and he was charged with a 3rd-degree felony of animal cruelty.

If he is found guilty, Ortiz faces jail time and up to US$10,000 in fines.

Officials say the dog is recovering and has been returned to its owner.
