Lenoir County Health Department reminds parents about back to school vaccines

LENOIR COUNTY, NC (WITN) It’s about that time of the year for school to start and with that comes vaccination requirements.

Some schools require specific immunizations before students can begin their year.

The Lenoir County Health Department Director says vaccinations are critical and the most important tool in maintaining health.

Some parents are concerned with the vaccine formula and what’s actually in it, along with how many vaccines are required of their children.

Pamela Brown is the Lenoir County Health Department Director and says she encourages such parents to talk to health departments or immunization nurses.

Brown says vaccines are particularly important for children whose immune systems haven’t fully developed yet.

Brown says, “Vaccines are important not just to protect the person that gets the vaccine but they’re also important to protect the community.”

Brown adds vaccines may not be perfect but they’re an important alert system for the body.
